New Grouse Grind Record!

I just heard that somebody (Australian, or was it Austrian, mountain running
champion) just set a new Grouse Grind record of 24:18. That's almost three
minutes faster than the previous record (a little less allowing for the
slight difference in distance between the race course and the trail itself).

New Zealand man sets Grouse Grind record: 24:22

VANCOUVER (CBC) - A 31-year-old visitor from New Zealand recently set a record for the Grouse Grind – making the popular climb in just 24 minutes and 22 seconds.

Three-time world mountain running champion Jonathan Wyatt tackled the steep 2.9-kilometre hike while he was in Vancouver on June 12.

His new unofficial record trumps Canadian Derek Reed, who finished the climb in 27 minutes and 18 seconds in 1997.

The women's record of 32:54 was set by Kelly Matoul in 2002.

The average for going up the Grind is about 90 minutes, and beginners are advised to give themselves about two hours.
