Buzz Burrell zips up/down Mt. Rainier

"Rainier was very fun, exciting, easy, excellent conditions. Total cakewalk. Slept in the backseat of the rental car, woke up when it got light, sauntered on up in 5:01. Spent :20 on top (plus another :20 talking to people), and was back at the car at 7:11 total."

Great time Buzz! Congratulations!

Two other speed ascents have been done on Rainier recently also.
Russian speed climber Ustin Popova did an ascent from Paradise and finishing at the summit in 5:28 (as timed by the third-party leaders of his group).

Nike guy John Eberle reported doing a Mt Rainier speed ascent starting at Paradise and finishing at the Summit in 5 hours 30 minutes. John, in the recent past, was a distinguished athlete in many sports, and is a highly experienced climber as he regularly climbs the most difficult routes on Hood and Rainier many times each year, and almost always solo each time, such as Rainier's Liberty Ridge.

The Russian speed climber mentioned above has reportedly done official speed ascents on Mt Elbrus, Peak Amangeldy (Kazakhstan), Peak Nursultan (Kazakhstan), and Khan Tengri in times very close to the record times, including near Anatoli Boukreev's record time on Elbrus and Amengeldy. See my website www.mountainspeedclimbing.org for more details.
